Five whole years of StageWrite, and another cracking set of brand new plays! The 2017 festival ran from Wednesday 29th March – Saturday 1st April, at our wonderful StageWrite ‘home’, The Place Theatre. For the first time, we partnered with the University of Bedfordshire Performing Arts Department to allow students in their final year the chance to write and perform their own work. We gave over the Wednesday evening of the week to showcase these pieces – one of which was a fully immersive experience for our audience.
And the 2017 final line up was:
29th March: Immerse Theatre’s ‘Avalei’ and Watch This Space with ‘Sessions’
30th March: ‘Ticking’ by David Pearson and ‘Failing At Failing’ by Serafina Cusack.
‘Failing At Failing’ has gone on to be presented as a rehearsed reading at Stanley Halls in London on 18th and 19th August, with a view to its development to full production. This project is being headed up by John Handscombe, one of our StageWrite 2017 company, who directed Failing At Failing for SW and himself runs a London-based company, Good Wolf www.goodwolfpeople.co.uk
31st March: ‘Custody’ by Carl Russell and ‘No More Starmix’ by Conor Patrick Carroll
1st April: ‘The Diabolical Death of Dick Barton’ by Michael Staniforth and ‘Silent Treatment’ by Amy Leach
What a fantastic week – and thank you to all our writers, actors, directors, technicians and audience. We’ve started planning for SW 2018!
